Last week the Law Society issued a new practice note to Solicitors on the advertising of conveyancing and pricing. The Society has received a large number of complaints about firms using "headline prices" which fail to make the likely full costs known to clients at the outset. An example of this is failing to make it clear at the outset that fees quoted do not include the cost of acting for a lender when a mortgage is involved. More..........

The Down Side Of Private Will Writing Companies

On Monday the 9th August the BBC programme Panorama broadcast the result of its investigations into the services of private will-writing companies.
Entitled "Wills - The Final Rip Off?" the Panorama investigation uncovered cases where initial will-writing fees of £75-£100 escalated to thousands of pounds, with clients and families of the deceased then being charged fee percentages for handling estates after death, which they were never told about.
