Partner and High Court Advocate (HCA) Nick Ross has just returned from a five week trial in London where he successfully defended Bolton based client Wayne Denniston during a major and complex money-laundering trial before a judge and jury at Southwark Crown Court.

The charges faced by our client involved 3 separate counts on an indictment alleging a total of 10 offences against him and his two co-accused.

Investigated by the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA), the case commenced in February 2007 and more than 2 years later our client, represented by Nick Ross was found Not Guilty.

The trial was a great victory for HCA Nick supported very ably by solicitor Tom McKail who prepared the case.  The co-accused were both represented by eminent leading counsel, Mr Ian Stern QC and Mr Vince Coughlin QC (assisted by junior counsel) and the Prosecution also had the benefit of two counsel.  In esteemed company Nick himself as the sole advocate commenced the trial on 20th April at Southwark which is regarded as the fraud court dealing with all major financial crime arising in the City and in Greater London.

Since returning to Bolton, Nick has had contact from the QCs and in particular, Mr Coughlin QC in an e-mail said the following:-

"the result was indeed astounding and not one that I thought would ever come our way…………If I may say so, you conducted yourself like a total pro you had a couple of tough calls to make and you made them well and the jury loved you………so more power to your elbow."

So a great result for the firm, our client and our Advocacy team whose reputation continues to grow week by week.  Nick and the Crown Court team have proved once again that our experience and hard work even in a most challenging arena will frequently produce successful and outstanding results for clients of the firm.
