National Road Victim Month

02/08/2022

National Road Victim Month, organised by RoadPeace Charity, raises essential awareness about the safety of our roads and is designed to remember those who have been killed or affected by an accident such as a car crash.

August has been designated National Road Victim Month ever since the death of Princess Diana on 31st August 1997, and to commemorate the first recorded death by a motor vehicle – Bridget Driscoll in 1896. Since then, it is thought that well over half a million people have been killed in road traffic accidents in Britain.

Whilst road safety awareness is improving, the number of people killed on Britain’s roads has stayed at roughly the same level year on year over the last decade. Over 60 people are seriously injured every day, and five people are killed on the roads in Britain.
